Arthroplasty – Olof Sköldenberg’s research group

Olof Sköldenberg’s research group is dedicated to developing and improving joint replacement surgery. The aim is simple but important: to give people with severe hip and knee problems a better quality of life through safer operations and prostheses that last longer.

Arthroplasty

By combining clinical experience with advanced research, we can swiftly translate new ideas into benefits for patients. We also work closely with national and international research groups to jointly drive progress in modern orthopaedic care.

We study, among other things:

  • How different prostheses perform in the long term: In order to reduce the risk of reoperations.
  • How the bone surrounding the prosthesis is affected: How we can prevent bone loss.
  • New treatment methods: For example, medications that may reduce complications after surgery.
  • Robotic surgery: We are currently leading the ROCKET study, Sweden’s largest clinical trial of robot-assisted knee replacement surgery, which compares traditional surgery with the latest robotic technology.
  • Patient safety and recovery: So that more people can have a safer and quicker return to everyday life.
