Systems biology of aging – Juulia Jylhävä's research group

We study the causes and consequences of biological aging at cellular, organ and system-wide levels, focusing on epigenetic clocks, plasma biomarkers and frailty. We use omics and epidemiological approaches to large-scale resources, such as the UK Biobank, FinnGen, the Swedish Twin registry and national cohorts.

An omics approach to understanding biological aging and frailty

Our research group’s focus is on understanding the drivers of biological aging as well as the consequences on individuals health in aging. With help of omics and causal inference methods, we have been able to unravel some mechanisms and add missing pieces to the puzzle. The puzzle is however far from complete; in our current projects, we are taking a deeper dive into the mechanisms at cellular, tissue and whole-organism levels, using both experimental and epidemiological approaches.
