We conduct epidemiological research aimed at advancing our understanding of how diet and lifestyle contribute to the prevention and development of major chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer and metabolic disorders.
Nutritional epidemiology forms the core of our work, and our research questions focus on exposures such as diet quality, dietary patterns, and dietary components, including dietary contaminants, as well as lifestyle factors. We also address sustainability aspects of diet and conduct drinking water epidemiology, with particular focus on contaminants.
Our research is based primarily on large population-based longitudinal cohorts with biomarker and omics data, which are linked to national and regional health registers. We also conduct register-based research studies.
To improve exposure assessment and strengthen causal inference, we apply advanced statistical methods, including refined modelling of long-term dietary and drinking water exposures and Mendelian randomization techniques.
