Jurga Laurencikiene group

The group focuses on the regulation of transcription in human adipose tissue and adipocytes. We aim to define changes of transcriptional programming in obesity and metabolic complications.

Our research

The group focuses on the regulation of transcription in human adipose tissue and adipocytes. We aim to define changes of transcriptional programming in obesity and metabolic complications. We aim to reveal mechanisms regulating adipocyte differentiation, rate of lipolysis and insulin responsiveness, which are important factors contributing to development of obesity and its complications: type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis and dyslipidemia.

Our studies could possibly lead to the discovery of novel signaling pathways regulating metabolism in a human fat tissue and could open new possibilities for developing of novel specific therapeutical agents targeting metabolic diseases.

The group is part of the Endocrinology Unit at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge (MedH).
