Precision Psychiatry – Lu Yi's research group

My group is dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) through the integration of large-scale genomic data and nationwide electronic healthcare records. By identifying and studying subtypes of depression, we aim to reduce the substantial heterogeneity within this disorder. Our long-term vision is to promote targeted drug development and optimize treatments for specific subgroups of patients, thereby contributing to the field of precision psychiatry.

Our research

Research Excellence

Our work has received recognition both nationally and internationally, underscored by numerous prestigious grants and awards. Recently, we were honored with a €1.5 million grant from the European Research Council (ERC), a testament to the groundbreaking nature of our research. Additionally, our group leads major projects funded by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the European Union's Horizon 2020 program, further emphasizing our position at the forefront of psychiatric research.

Key Research Areas

  • Extreme Depression: Our research specifically targets tertiary prevention by focusing on the most pernicious and impactful forms of MDD. The overarching goal is to develop reproducible, generalizable, and clinically valuable predictive models for the worst forms of MDD.
  • Depression Subtyping: Our research focuses on classifying MDD into distinct subtypes to better understand the underlying mechanisms and to develop more effective, tailored treatments.
  • Precision Psychiatry: We are committed to advancing precision psychiatry, aiming to provide the right treatment to the right patient at the right time.

Collaborative Efforts

Our research group is part of an extensive network of collaborations with leading institutions and researchers worldwide. As the Principal Investigator for Sweden in major international projects funded by the US-NIH and EU-Horizon2020, we play a crucial role in driving forward collaborative research initiatives that span continents and disciplines.

Future Directions

Looking ahead, our research group aims to expand our work on depression subtyping and precision psychiatry. We will continue to harness cutting-edge technologies and interdisciplinary collaborations to push the boundaries of psychiatric research. Our ultimate goal is to improve the lives of individuals suffering from depression through innovative research and personalized treatment strategies.
