Infectious diseases/Venhälsan – Jaran Eriksen's research group

We conduct research on different aspects of treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, often studies to improve care of the patients we see at the Infectious diseases department at Stockholm South General hospital (SÖS). Current projects include improving HIV treatment, optimising care and prevention of STI and HIV in men who have sex with men (MSM), prevention of bone and joint infections after orthopedic surgery, and optimising antibiotic treatment for both in- and outpatient care.

OPAT – Outpatients Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy A project to study effects, health economy, patient and provider perceptions of continuous infusion of antibiotics delivered by elastomeric pumps.

PrEP OPT – Optimised clinical implementation of PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis against HIV) among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Stockholm, Sweden A cohort study to assess how HIV preventive measures for MSM can be optimized, e.g. looking at risk behaviour, adverse effects, renal function.

PrEP SAD – A study of mental and sexual health among MSM using PrEP in Stockholm, Sweden.

PrEP Self  A study to follow up feasibility and perceptions of self-testing for STI and HIV among MSM using PrEP in Stockholm, Sweden.

SAP  A study of screening for anal cancer and cell dysplasia in MSM living with HIV.

Mpox-Ak  A study of prevalence of mpox and immunity acquired after infection and vaccination.

EURO-Sida  A cohort study of people living with HIV. All people living with HIV in Sweden are invited to participate in this European collaborative project.

CC Correct - Optimising antibiotic prophylaxis in arthroplasty to decrease the risk of prosthetic joint infections – A project to study whether the current standard dose of perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis with cloxacillin used for hip and knee arthroplasty in Sweden is appropriate, or whether optimised/individualized dosing, could increase the number of patients reaching adequate concentrations thereby reducing the number of post-operative infections.
