Gastrointestinal Surgery KI SÖS – Gabriel Sandblom's research group

Colorectal surgery

The research at the colorectal department is focused on colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases and anal fistulas. Since 2005 we have a local register for colorectal cancer (KVALOG). The register also covers patients undergoing surgery for benign conditions (e.g. proctologic procedures, diverticular diseases and colorectal polyps) from 2011 . Since 2017, all patients undergoing rectal surgery are recorded according to a fast track program based on the same principals as ERAS (Enhanced recovery after surgery) called ERASS (ERAS Sös).

Acute surgery

At the department of acute surgery and abdominal wall surgery acute abdominal conditions are managed, e.g. appendicitis, acute pancreatitis and cholecystitis. Planned hernia surgery is also performed at the department. A number of studies focused on acute gastrointestinal conditions and abdominal wall surgery are conducted at the section.
