Oligodendroglia at a crossroad in multiple sclerosis: proceed to the Myelin State or overcome epigenetic mountains to achieve the Immune State.

Fredrik Piehl's reserach group

Inflammation and degeneration in the nervous system focusing on multiple sclerosis (MS) and myasthenia gravis (MG).

MS is an autoimmune disease that causes damage to the nerve fibers of the central nervous system (CNS), which is the basis for the permanent neurological disabilities that many patients eventually will develop. In MG autoantibodies disturb the signal transmission between nerve and muscle causing muscle weakness that sometimes can be life-threathening.
