Welcome to the Unit for Teaching and Learning!
The Unit for Teaching and Learning (UoL) facilitates pedagogical development across Karolinska Institutet’s education across first, second, and third cycle levels. By providing courses in higher education pedagogy, pedagogical support and competence development, we contribute to high-quality education at KI.
Our mission includes supporting the development of teaching and courses, creating forums for pedagogical dialogue, promoting organisational learning, and contributing to the production of learning materials. UoL also develops pedagogical and digital infrastructure to support the delivery and quality of education.
This work is carried out in close collaboration with those who plan, deliver and evaluate KI’s educational programmes.

The unit's four areas
Workbased teaching and learning
The area is based on research, experience and contextual understanding of how we can create conditions for learning in the clinical context. We focus on creating conditions for high quality supervision of students in work based learning environments through a student-centred, person-centred and interprofessional approach.
We offer courses, tools, and workshops that strengthen supervisors’ pedagogical competence and support the development of supervision models and educational processes in health care.

Higher education pedagogy
The area is based on research, experience and contextual understanding of higher education pedagogy and medical pedagogy. The area focuses on a wide range of pedagogical themes, from student learning to course and programme design, examination and assessment, supervision and evaluation of the quality of education.
We are responsible for formal professional development for teachers and supervisors, and we provide consultation and projects that strengthen teaching and learning in medical education.

Digital learning
The area is based on research, experience and contextual understanding of how we can create conditions for learning in digital learning environments. Digital learning focuses on creating conditions for flexible learning in digital learning environments regardless of time and place by integrating digital tools into teaching.
We are responsible for the development of digital infrastructure and offer support for the development of teaching and examination in the form of seminars, workshops and targeted development projects.

Continuous Learning and Professional Development
The area is based on research, experience and contextual understanding of higher education and medical pedagogy with a focus on informal and organisational learning. The area is responsible for how to create structures within an organisation to promote continuous learning.
We provide opportunities, structures, resources and forums for continuous development and learning and create the conditions for a learning organisation. We also run strategic projects to develop education.
