About me

  • I am an adjunct, educator and a researcher at the unit for teaching and learning and the department of Leaning, Informatics, Mangement and Ethics (LIME) at Karolinska Institutet.  I have over 20 years of multifaceted experience in pharmacology, pharmaco-epidemiology, global health, and medical education. I earned my PhD in pharmacology at KI, and have since developed a distinguished profile at the intersection of research, teaching, and academic leadership.

My work focus on educational development and innovation in health professions education, with an emphasis on global health, sustainable development, and the integration of Agenda 2030 goals into curriculum.

I actively contribute to professional development for faculty and build bridges across cultures through inclusive teaching methods. I am a leading contributor to major international projects, such as LEANBODY (“LEAN in Medical Education: Reaching for Quality Management Tools to Teach Human Anatomy Effectively in a Multicultural and Multilingual Learning Space”), for which I was the principal investigator from KI (Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in Higher Education, 2021–2024).

Throughout my career, I have played key roles in teaching, leading and managing research projects, and driving educational innovation in both on-campus and digital environments. I have published in prominent journals and guided curriculum development initiatives advancing “glocal” (global and local) approaches in higher education.

Research

  • My research interests span medical education, pharmacology, pharmacoepidemiology, global health and reproductive health. More recently I have been increasingly active in health sciences education, global health and reproductive/migrant health. I was leading research projects as  the LEANbody ERASMUS+ EU research project “Anatomy education at central Europe medical schools: a qualitative analysis of educators’ pedagogical knowledge, methods, practices, and challenges” (2025) and “Global Health and Decolonisation in Higher Education: Examining the Attitudes, Perceptions and Possibilities of Educators” (2023), exploring how global health education can be decolonised and how educators perceive and enact that transformation. Peter Lang+1. Additionally, I researched “Insights from Glocal Educators: Unveiling the Transformative Journeys of Educational Developers” (2024). These together underscore my commitment to teaching and learning in multilingual, multicultural (“glocal”) medical education contexts. My work in Global health is also prominent, for example, I was one of the responsible researchers for evaluating the care model community-based bilingual doula support during labour and birth for migrant women in Sweden as we conducted a randomised controlled trial (2022) which measured intrapartum care experiences and postnatal wellbeing. Early in my career, following her PhD in pharmacology and neuro-psychopharmacology, she published on experimental pharmacological strategies for treating schizophrenia, including studies such as “Enhanced Cortical Dopamine Output and Antipsychotic-like Effect of Raclopride with Adjunctive Low-Dose L-dopa” (2005) Biological psychiatry. My research then expanded into pharmaco-epidemiology and Global public health, addressing issues such as drug‐use patterns in primary health centres in India and antibiotic use and resistance in animal farming in Sudan (e.g., “Antibiotic Use and Resistance in Animal Farming: A Quantitative and Qualitative Study on Knowledge and Practices among Farmers in Khartoum, Sudan”, 2012).
