Karolinska Institutet employs around 3,000 researchers, including some 320 full professors. In all, the university has more than 2,000 active doctoral students. A large number of researchers, such as visiting scientists and unwaged docents, are also affiliated to the university without a formal employment.

On the 15th of October 2020, 14 new professors were inaugurated at Karolinska Institutet in solemn forms in Aula Medica. In addition, we gave our new adjunct professors and visiting professors a warm welcome.

Since 2011 universities and institutions of higher education in Sweden have had greater freedom to decide themselves on the appointment of a professor. KI has chosen to expose professorships to competition and has abolished the right to be promoted.
