The units at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge (MedH) conduct research within a wide range of medical specialities, including basic and clinical research. The department is also hosting six core facilities located at KI Campus Flemingsberg.
Units at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge
Biosciences and Nutrition Unit
The unit performs research in areas of medical sciences, including molecular ageing, cancer biology, biologic drugs and biomaterials, functional genomics, structural biology, bioinformatics, and nutrition.
Center for Infectious Medicine, CIM
The research at the Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM) is focused around studies of the human immune system and infection-immunity in humans.
Endocrinology Unit
The Endocrinology Unit with the Lipid laboratory and Clinical Research Center, studies the role of lipid metabolism in cardiometabolic diseases, in order to develop treatments for common national diseases such as obesity and lipid disorders.
Gastroenterology and Rheumatology Unit
The unit consists of research groups within inflammatory and metabolic liver diseases, cholestatic liver diseases, gastrointestinal motility disorders and rheumatology.
Heart and Lung Diseases Unit
The unit's vision is to contribute to improved care in heart and lung diseases, working with scientific evaluation and development of current diagnosis and treatment, and also with development of new mechanistic knowledge, diagnosis and treatment.
Hematology Unit/HERM
The research focus is to improve understanding and treatment of hematologic disorders and to explore basic cellular, molecular and immunological mechanisms with relevance for hematopoiesis, cell therapy and tumor development. Most of the unit's research groups are located within the Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM).
Infectious Diseases and Dermatology Unit
The research at the unit is focused around studies on how the interplay between humans and micro-organisms results in disease and how this can be treated and prevented.
