Research at the Speech-Language Pathology Clinic – KI DS

The Speech-Language Pathology Clinic is the country’s largest speech-language pathology clinics and forms part of the Neurology research area at Danderyd Hospital. Our research is carried out through projects, often in collaboration with external partners at other universities and departments. The projects cover various areas within the clinic’s remit, such as speech and language disorders, voice disorders, and eating and swallowing difficulties.

Projects in which our researchers are involved

What does clinical care for children with a speech sound disorder/SSD look like in Sweden today? The project is gathering insights from children, carers and speech and language therapists to improve future guidelines.

Voice problems are common, particularly amongst women and people in voice-intensive professions such as teachers and call centre staff. These problems lead to long-term sick leave, which affects personal finances, psychosocial well-being and productivity.

Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders among preschool-aged children. Children with DLD often receive speech and language therapy, but for those with more severe difficulties, attending a specialized language preschool is sometimes recommended for more intensive intervention, and a preschool environment better adapted to their needs. The SPETS-project compares effects of the two most common service delivery models for DLD in Sweden (outpatient clinic and specialist preschool) from an ICF-perspective. Focus lies on capturing functional outcomes of intervention and exploring how families’ perspectives evolve over time in order to improve the family centeredness of services.
