Psychiatric Genetic Epidemiology – Sarah Bergen's research group

We aim to discover the biological and environmental foundations of psychiatric disorders, the patterns and determinants of their comorbidities with other medical disorders, and subgroups within psychiatric patient populations. Ultimately, we hope these efforts will lead to improved treatment options and help alleviate the personal and social burdens associated with these disorders.

Our research

To better understand the foundations of psychiatric disorders, the full health burden they pose, and opportunities to develop better treatments, my group investigates:

  1. genetic and environmental risk factors for psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression and eating disorders
  2. epidemiological and genetic relationships between different psychiatric disorders
  3. relationships between psychiatric disorders and conditions that are often comorbid with them.
