The research at Ersta Hospital aims to improve care for the broad patient groups treated at this unit. The focus is on understanding the causes and thereby reducing the risk of negative effects of surgical treatment.

The main areas in which we conduct research are:


•    Studies aimed at improving outcomes for patients undergoing major abdominal surgery, particularly for the treatment of colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.
•    Surgical treatment of patients with severe obesity, as well as the significance of adipose tissue characteristics and coagulation function for the development of metabolic morbidity.
•    Evaluation of surgical techniques/methods, preferably within the framework of randomized controlled trials.
