Every year, the Colorectal Unit at Danderyd Hospital treats a large number of patients with bowel cancer, 300 of whom undergo surgery. In addition, patients with diverticular disease and complications, as well as those with inflammatory bowel disease, are assessed and operated on.
There is also an extensive endoscopic programme for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with bowel diseases, covering both acute and elective cases. This extensive programme enables us to investigate diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of bowel surgical conditions, in order to evaluate treatments locally and in collaboration with national and international partners. The research is led by practising surgeons with an extensive network of collaborators in academia and industry, both nationally and internationally.
