The program will will run from June 8-17, 2026 at the University of Toronto and is hosted by Medicine by Design, CCRM‘s academic research division, in partnership with the Stem Cell Network and the CCRM Foundation.

Applications are now open until January 19, 2026.

Summer by Design is an intensive eight-day program that brings exceptional PhD students and postdoctoral fellows from Canada and around the world to Toronto. Designed to accelerate the careers of emerging leaders in regenerative medicine, the program combines expert-led interactive sessions, lectures, and case studies that immerse participants in the full trajectory of translating scientific discoveries into real-world patient impact.

Throughout the program, participants learn how to advance innovative technologies out of the lab and into clinical and commercial settings; navigate the path to translation and commercialization; and explore diverse career opportunities beyond academia. They also engage directly with Toronto’s world-class life sciences community through meetings with clinical, industry, and academic leaders in regenerative medicine. In addition, Summer by Design participants will form networks of international peers through the connections gained throughout the program.

Medicine by Design will pay for instructional costs, and, for participants from outside the Toronto area, accommodation in a university residence and breakfast each day. Participants will be responsible for travel costs to and from Toronto, most lunches and dinners, incidental expenses and health insurance. Participants will also be responsible for arranging appropriate travel documents to enter Canada, if applicable.
