Tell us your story!
I studied biomedicine at KI and completed the bachelor’s and master’s degrees, then continued with my doctoral studies and graduated from KI in 2021. I chose to study at KI since KI is a well known and respected university.
I spent almost 10 years altogether at KI and those years spent in Solna and Flemingsberg were wonderful and full of personal development. There are many highlights from my studies, but probably some of the most important ones are meeting my husband, my exchange studies and PhD defence.
After my studies, I started looking for postdoc positions in Shanghai since at that time my husband started working there at a Swedish company. I spent about 1,5 years as a postdoctoral researcher at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University and currently I work as a senior editor at Nature Communications. I spend most of my days reading manuscripts, making editorial decisions, searching for reviewers and communicating with authors by email. I sometimes visit research institutions and conferences. The job as an editor requires a PhD degree and a relevant scientific background. I received both of these from KI.
My future goal is probably moving on to another journal within the Nature Portfolio or applying for a manager position.
What is your advice to students
To gain broad scientific knowledge, start working in research labs early on, develop soft skills and build a professional network.
