This ultracentrifuge located at SciLifeLab is available for use within OnkPat and Theme Cancer in BioClinicum.
Centrifuge Optima XE-90
Room no: G5650 (Gamma 5 in SciLifeLab)
Responsible persons: Ola Larsson and Solenne Bleuse
Booking calendar: contact the responsible persons.
Instrument
The centrifuge from Beckman Coulter is composed of a touch screen, a rotor chamber and a vacuum system. The touch screen is both the information display and the control input to set the speed (in rpm and rcf – max 90 000 rpm), time (up to 999h59min) and temperature (from 0 to 40°C). The centrifuge is set for the rotor SW40 Ti swinging-bucket (max speed: 40 000 rpm) that is provided and for open-top polyclear centrifuge tubes that can also be provided if necessary. The list of the other tube models that can be used can be found in the rotor instructions manual under links.
New users
This equipment is a core facility for Research Theme Cancer at BioClinicum and is accessible for authorized persons only. All users should have passed KI´s Laboratory safety introduction and sent the certificate to Paula Mannström. The new users should contact one of the responsible persons to book and receive a 15 minute introduction to the functions and routines and a brief training for operating the ultracentrifuge to become an authorised user.
General work rules
The defined rules and work procedures are introduced during the new user training and must be strictly followed.
Three things you must not do:
- Never start the run without confirming the load is perfectly balanced.
- Never leave the ultracentrifuge unsupervised before it reaches the speed required
- Never use without booking and/or without training
