Our research focuses on morbidity and mortality after major surgery and critical illness. Long-term outcomes after perioperative and intensive care.
Anesthesiology is the science of anesthesia, use of anesthetics and the care of the critically ill patient. In Sweden, anesthesiology is a medical specialty encompassing perioperative care, anesthetics, intensive care and pain medicine.
Our research focuses on morbidity and mortality after major surgery and critical illness. Long-term outcomes after perioperative and intensive care.
Our research group is mapping the effects of surgical trauma on the brain's immune system and cognitive processes. We describe how this effect occurs and how it can be prevented with new pharmacological principles.
We study oxygenation, early resuscitation in trauma and drug treatment in cardiac arrest. We do translational research and clinical trials based on clinical problems and with the aim to improve patient care.
The research group “Stockholm-Pediatric Anesthesia” is performing research with regards to the following areas related to pediatric anesthesia and intensive care: regional anesthesia and postoperative pain relief, pharmacology with a focus on the various uses of alpha-2 agonists, monitoring of respiration and circulation by use of capnodynamics, neonatal anesthesia and preoperative information and premedication in association with pediatric anesthesia.
Using a combination of high-resolution intensive care unit (ICU) data and health registry data, we study the impact of chronic illness, acute physiological and biochemical patterns, and intensive care therapies on short- and long-term outcomes after critical illness.
Trauma and sepsis are common causes for intensive care admission. These conditions are closely linked and carry high mortality. We are conducting translational studies ranging from epidemiology to in vitro experiments in this field.
Our research focuses on mortality and morbidity following major surgical procedures and critical illness.
