In several of our project, focus is on specific diagnoses, such as musculoskeletal disorders, mental disorders, reflux, breast cancer, MS, disorders related to dental fillings, kidney transplantations, and cardiovascular diagnoses.
Return to work after breast cancer surgery
The aim of this project is to gain knowledge on factors that hinder and promote return to work among women who have had breast cancer surgery, and how sickness absence influences their quality of life and health.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis in women. Since almost 90% of the women survive more than five years, but may suffer from remaining symptoms from treatment and disease, research focusing on consequences for their life situation, are needed. Few studies have been conducted concerning factors of importance for (return to) work.

Sickness absence and return to work after coronary revascularization
Cardiovascular disease is a major public health problem. In Sweden, each year about 10 000 people under the age of 65 undergo coronary revascularization by coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) or percutaneous coronar intervention (PCI). Compared to other countries Sweden has significantly longer sick-leave spells related to coronary revascularization and guidelines in this respect based on evidence based knowledge is essentially lacking.

Hearing difficulties and sickness absence
Hearing difficulties are common and tend to increase, at the same time the knowledge about the consequences of these difficulties for work, work capacity and sick leave or disability pension is very limited.
At the Division of Insurance Medicine we conduct interdisciplinary studies of the consequences of sickness absence or disability pension due to hearing difficulties using large prospective population-based cohort data.
