The Department of Medicine, Huddinge (MedH) is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet with around 800 employees and affiliated staff. The department consists of five units with about 80 research groups and some teams. MedH is also the host of six core facilities for research at KI Campus Flemingsberg.
The Department of Medicine, Huddinge (MedH) is lead by the Head of department, whose responsibility includes all activities at the department. The Head of department is supported by the department management, in close collaboration with the Central Administration and the department's seven units and unit administration.
Delegation rules
This document is an appendix to the Vice-Chancellor’s decision-making procedures and delegation rules for Karolinska Institutet and contains decision-making and delegation rules for the Department of Medicine, Huddinge. This document replaces previous delegation rules and delegations.
In accordance with the Vice-Chancellor’s decision-making procedures and delegation rules for Karolinska Institutet, the Head of Department has decided that the following organisation with decision-making and delegation rules shall apply at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge as of 2024-07-01.
Management group
The department's Management group supports the Head of department in development and strategy related matters affecting the entire department. The management group is responsible for communicating the Head of department's positions and decisions to other employees.
The management group consists of the Head of department, the Head of administration (AC), the unit heads, the Communications officer, the Responsible for undergraduate education (GUA) and the Director for doctoral education.

Communications OfficerSupport functions
The administrative support at the department consists of a Central Administration and Unit Administration. They support the department and its units in matters relating to finance, HR, communication and education.
The department is also supported by the following functions:
- Educational Committee (Utbildningsnämnden).
- Research Education Board (Forskarutbildningsnämnden).
- Collaboration committee as stated in the Karolinska Institutet collaboration agreement.
- Work environment group, including a work group for physical work environment and a work group for organisational and social work environment.
Units
Research and education is conducted at the department's five units. The head of each unit reports back to the Head of department at MedH. The units include around 80 independent research groups. Some research groups are also divided into teams lead by a team leader.
