Divisions at MTC
The Department of Microbiology, Tumor, and Cell Biology comprises researchers working in different divisions in various areas of immunology, infection biology, and cell and tumor biology.
Division of Tumor Biology
Division of Virology and Immunology
Division of Parasitology and Core Facilities
Division of Clinical Genomics & Virology
Division of Host-Microbe

Division of Translational Microbiome Research and Pandemic Preparedness
The Division of Translational Microbiome Research and Pandemic Preparedness focus on the impact of the microbiome on human health and disease. Exploration of the human microbiome combined with diagnostics development and intervention are the main goals in our projects. Large-scale sequencing and diagnostics of SARS-Cov-2 during the pandemic has lead to a number of collaborations on pendemic preparedness related R&D projects currently performed at the division.

Division of Microbial Pathogenesis
The main research areas in Division of Microbial Pathogenesis are within infection biology, respiratory tract and invasive infections, host-bacterial interactions, pathogenesis, infection epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, new antimicrobials, vaccines, and nanoparticle science. Within the Birgitta Henriques- Normark research group there are four project groups headed by Edmund Loh, George Sotiriou, Erik Benson, and Birgitta Henriques-Normark.
