The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology is made up of researchers working in a wide range of areas within immunology, infection biology and cell and tumor biology. We conduct research to explore and understand the molecular basis of infectious diseases and cancers and associated immunological responses. We are committed to translating our discoveries through the development of diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines.

The Clinical Genomics Stockholm facility provides a dedicated research infrastructure for projects utilising massively parallel / next generation sequencing technologies. It serves as a competence center assisting the translation of genomics-based tools to routine clinical care. The facility aims to improve the capacity of the public health microbiology for national surveillance of infectious diseases and for epidemic preparedness.

The Biosafety Level (BSL)-3 laboratory at Biomedicum is developed to meet research needs on highly-pathogenic microorganisms. The facility is located in Biomedicum, Solna. It was brought into operation in 2018 shortly after the move to Biomedicum.
Biomedicum Flow Cytometry Core Facility (BFS Biomedicum)
BFC is a shared resource laboratory that will provide researchers with the capability of performing a wide range of flow cytometry experiments.

StratCan-KICancer is an open network for all cancer researchers at KI with over 250 members.
Postgraduate Programme in Biology of Infections and Global Health (BIGH)
The programme is now a well established network of infection biologists and global health researchers, with many members from Karolinska Institutet.
The Swedish Society for Immunology (SWIMM)
SWIMM represents immunologists working in Sweden and/or that want to be part of the Swedish network for immunologists.
