Many neurodegenerative diseases and conditions are associated with inflammatory processes in the central nervous system.

Marianne Schultzberg is studying the mechanisms underlying the activation of support cells, microglia, and the release of inflammatory factors such as cytokines, as well as whether it is possible to modulate the inflammation and reduce nerve cell death in acute and chronic brain inflammation. This can be seen in diseases and injuries, including Alzheimer's disease and stroke.
