A greater focus on information technology in healthcare is necessary for improving health, healthcare provision and resource use, says Gunnar Nilsson. As a general practitioner, he has applied medical informatics in various projects to describe and improve his clinical work. He looks forward to a time when there is a much greater awareness of IT's potential and significance to healthcare, in terms of clinical practice, research and education.
