Become a patient of a student
The Department of Dental Medicine trains future dentists and dental hygienists. Students receive their clinical training with us at the Universitetstandvården (University Dental Clinic).
Not like a regular dental practice
Here at Universitetstandvården (University Dental Clinic), we can offer dental care at lower prices. All treatment provided by students in the adult dental clinics is carried out under the close supervision of teachers. All teachers are licensed, either general or specialist dentists.
To be enrolled with one of our students, you must have a need for care that is suitable for treatment by a student. Another thing that distinguishes our clinic from a regular dental clinic is that you will be discharged when you have finished treatment.
Registration of interest
The application form can be filled out in person at the reception on floor 6 and submitted on presentation of identification, or you can register your interest digitally via the link Application for interest (click on the link, read the conditions, fill in the form and submit your interest).
The need for patients varies from semester to semester.
The reception is open:
- Monday-Thursday: 8-17
- Friday: 8-16
- closed for lunch: 12-12:45
Conditions for receiving treatment by a student
To ensure that students have the best possible conditions, the following conditions apply:
- You must be able to come for treatment about 1-2 times/week, and be prepared to stay for 2-3 hours each time. You must also be able to adapt your visits to the students' service schedule at the clinic, which can be both in the morning and afternoon.
- You agree that your medical records and X-rays may be used for educational purposes.
- You can speak Swedish fluently, without an interpreter.
In your and the students' best interests, we cannot process:
- patients with a known blood infection or MRSA
- patients with large, complex prosthetic treatment needs
- patients with extensive previous fixed prosthetics
- patients who are taking biphosphonates (osteoporosis medication).
Bring your medication list to the first visit if you are unsure of the medications you are taking.
Please note that children cannot be brought to klinikerna för vuxentandvård (the adult dental clinics).
This is how it works
Before you can be enrolled with one of our students, one of our teachers must have assessed that your treatment needs are suitable for educational dentistry. X-rays in combination with an examination are usually needed to make a full assessment. Therefore, we usually schedule an initial visit to Universitetstandvårdens odontologisk röntgen (Dental X-ray Clinic). After your visit there, you can come back for a second visit. In simpler cases, we can also make an assessment after reviewing the X-rays without seeing you. You will then be informed whether or not you can be admitted to become a patient.
If you are registered for treatment with a student, you will be put on our waiting list. The waiting time can vary from autumn to spring, depending on which part of the program is relevant. It can be up to one year.
For acute problems, we can treat you at our emergency department if you are already a patient with us.
Costs and payment
When we plan your treatment, we will give you a quote so that you know roughly what your treatment will cost. All treatment carried out by students is charged at a special student rate. The adult dental clinics are affiliated to the Försäkringskassan.
No table in the English version (it is in Swedish)
If you need specialist dental care, we can refer you to our specialist clinic. Only specialist dentists and dentists in specialist training work there, and a higher rate applies based on the Försäkringskassan´s reference price list. The price list is available at the specialist clinic. This care is also affiliated to the Försäkringskassan.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer our patients any cosmetic treatments, such as teeth whitening.
We only accept payment by card and you pay after each completed procedure. If your next bill is expected to be SEK 1,000 or more, at least half the amount must be paid in advance. If a debt is not settled by the time after the date of the charge, the treatment may be canceled and you may be dismissed from the clinic.
When you do not show up for an appointment
You may also be dismissed from the clinic if you repeatedly fail to show up or are late in canceling your appointment. Each absence from the agreed appointment will be charged with SEK 200.
Warranty and guarantee
We provide a guarantee for our prosthetic measures. This means that repairs during the warranty period are free of charge, up to the amount paid.
- 1 year for prostheses
- 2 years for crowns/bridges
