Project group

The ESTRID study has its core at the Institute of Environmental Medicine at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden but we have a close collaboration with Lund University Diabetes Center and Uppsala University.

Research group ESTRID

Principal investigator

Sofia Carlsson

Sofia is associate professor in epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet. Her main area of interest is risk factors for adult onset diabetes such as type 2 diabetes and LADA.

Associates

Anders Rosengren

Anders is a medical doctor and senior lecturer. He is project leader and medically responsible for the ANDIS registry.

Miranda Beck

Miranda is the research assistant and contact person for the study participants in the ESTRID study. She manages the data collection, is responsible for sending out surveys, manages the database, answers questions from participants and keeps in touch with the ANDIS register. Miranda holds a master's degree in global public health.

Bahareh Rasouli

Bahareh wrote her doctoral thesis on alcohol and tobacco consumption and the risk of developing LADA. She has a master's degree in public health nutrition and a doctor's degree in medical science. Currently, she is a post doc at Harvard University, Boston, USA.

Josefin Edwall Löfvenborg

Josefin has defended her doctoral thesis at Karolinska Institutet and is now a postdoc. Her research is based on ESTRID material and focuses on diet and the risk of developing LADA and type 2 diabetes. She also has a master's degree in nutrition.

Anna-Maria Lampousi

Anna-Maria Lampousi is a PhD student in the ESTRID group. Her project aims to clarify the influence of diet, including its interaction with genetic factors, on the risk of LADA, type 1, and type 2 diabetes. Anna-Maria holds a master's degree in epidemiology and a bachelor's degree in nutrition and dietetics.

Yuxia Wei

Yuxia Wei is a PhD student in the ESTRID study. One important aspect of her PhD project is to investigate risk factors over the life course for diabetes with and without an autoimmune component, leveraging different types of data (questionnaires, registers, genomic and metabolomic data, et al) and different methods for causal inference including Mendelian randomization and family-based study designs. In her PhD study, she also focuses on the prognosis of different types of diabetes in adults, especially autoimmune diabetes. Yuxia holds a master's degree in epidemiology and health statistics.

Emmy Keysendal

Emmy is a PhD student in the ESTRID group. Her projects investigate how tobacco use and early life factors affect the risk of developing LADA, type 1 diabetes and different subgroups of type 2 diabetes, and how they interact with genetic factors. Emmy holds a master's degree in biomedicine.
