ESTRID has received VR and FORTE funding
The ESTRID study, has received a grant of 4 800 000 SEK from The Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet, VR). The study has also been granted 5 230 000 SEK from FORTE (Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare) for the project “Risk factors for LADA and type 2 diabetes, steps towards lifestyle precision medicine”.
The VR grant will be used for the study of risk factors and prognosis for LADA - latent autoimmune diabetes in adults.
The overall aim of this research project granted by FORTE is to increase knowledge on risk factors for LADA as well as how genes and environment interact in the development of LADA and type 2 diabetes. The following will be investigated within the project:
a) The risk of LADA in relation to lifestyle and environmental factors and how these interact with genetic factors associated with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
b) The risk of type 2 diabetes in relation to the interaction between lifestyle factors and genetic variants associated with type 2 diabetes.
c) The importance of sex, socioeconomic status and ethnicity in relation to these associations.
