The Communications and Public Relations Office helps KI to achieve its operational goals in research and education by coordinating and developing the university’s internal and external communication.

What we do

The office plans and implements strategic and operative communication activities in alignment with the university’s needs. It provides channels for effective communication, maintains and nurtures the KI brand, distinguishes KI as a university and enhances its role as a societal actor.

The Digital Communications Development Unit

The Digital Communications Development Unit coordinates and develops all of KI’s general digital communication channels.

  • We coordinate cross-channel strategies, guidelines and regulations for digital communication channels.
  • We oversee the management and development of the KI website, social media and web-editor organisation.
  • We conduct analyses, evaluations and follow-ups of KI’s digital communication channels.
  • We provide user-support and coach content managers and web editors.
  • We support national and international student recruitment with a focus on the KI website, digital advertising, KI’s digital student ambassadors and the like.
  • We help researchers to find study participants through digital appeals.

The Communication Coordination and Branding Unit

The Communication Coordination and Branding Unit helps to develop KI as a communicative organisation. We work strategically and operationally in close association with KI’s departments and offices.

  • We initiate, maintain and develop external collaborations in order to strengthen the dialogue with the university’s target groups.
  • We offer activity-centric communication support to departments and research centres via our internal communication consultants.
  • We coordinate, conduct and follow up communication activities at a general university level.
  • We offer strategic and activity-centric communication support to all Professional Services offices.
  • We offer tools and methods for planned communication, and coach managers and leaders in various skills, including communicative leadership.
  • We work to strengthen and nurture the KI brand and provide support in graphic design and branding.

The Press Office and Editorial Content Unit

The Press Office and Editorial Content Unit coordinates, plans and produces editorial content and provides support on media relations.

  • We provide a service for the media by replying to questions from journalists and arranging contact with experts.
  • We work strategically and operationally with science communication, including via the Research at Karolinska Institutet portal on the KI website.
  • We publish news on and accounts of KI’s research, education and students as well as material portraying KI as a university and social operator.
  • We work with and develop various format of editorial content for release on the website, in print, on social media and in podcasts.
  • We provide operational media and communication support to staff and managers and monitor academic, social and media trends.
