Our vision: A society better prepared for future health crises

About us
Our vision is of a society better prepared for future health crises, and our mission is to build the next generation of health crisis experts through research, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration. By improving the ability to handle, prevent and learn from health crises, we argue that societies can be better prepared for the future. We have five strategic goals that span across all the work we do and guide our activities.

Our work and areas of expertise
At the Centre for Health Crises, we work according to an ’all hazards perspective’, on how health crises affect society. To do this requires an understanding of both vulnerability and hazard, as well as a focus on both long- and short-term factors. To assure in-depth competence in fields relevant to health crises, we work along areas of expertise, with an assigned expert coordinator, as well as in interconnected collaborations.

Organisation and governance
The Centre is KI’s platform to contribute our expertise, based on research and education, to improve preparedness and management of health crises. We are comprised of a team of core staff, and an extended group of expert coordinators with profound knowledge and experience in their respective fields. Our steering group oversees the work and development of the Centre. Our director reports directly to the president of KI.

Networks and collaborations
Interdisciplinary collaborations with actors within and outside KI, nationally and internationally, is essential for our work. Our activities and our organisation span across all of KI. At present, we focus especially on collaborations with other universities and institutes of higher learning, to develop our role in health crises in Sweden. Moreover, we collaborate with national and international organisations to bring our expertise to ongoing health crises.
