About us at the Division of Psychology
At the Division of Psychology, we're conducting research at the intersection between psychology and biomedicine at Karolinska Institutet and the Karolinska University Hospital. We're responsible for the main part of the courses that are given at the psychology program at Karolinska Institutet, and we're also responsible for many of the courses at Karolinska Institutet at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level.
The History of the Division
The division has a relatively short history and has its origins in a research professorship in experimental psychology that the Medical Research Council awarded to Marianne Frankenhaeuser in 1969. This professorship was transferred to Karolinska Institutet in 1980. After Professor Frankenhaeuser's retirement, Arne Öhman took over the professorship in 1993 at the same time as the department became part of the Department of Clinical Neuroscience. Under Arne Öhman's leadership, the department expanded in both research and education. After a few years of preparation in the early 2000s, the psychology program was started in 2007, which today examines about 70 psychology students per year. During these years, the research group at the department has grown from a handful of researchers and teachers to now include around 100 people in the form of doctoral students, researchers / teachers, administrators and affiliates.
