Contribute to StratNeuro with your ideas
We are developing a strategy to strengthen groundbreaking research at KI in line with Strategy 2030 as well as new initiatives in education, networking, and outreach. We wish, in this process, to receive valuable input from the KI community.
Welcome to submit your suggestions!
Funding
StratNeuro Call 2024: Funding for postdoctoral researchers
The Strategic Research Area Neuroscience, StratNeuro, announces up to ten grants to support postdoctoral researchers at Karolinska Institutet.
StratNeuro announces new Technology Grant
The Strategic Research Area Neuroscience, StratNeuro, awards a total of 6,400,000 SEK to support new technologies and methods to study the nervous system.
StratNeuro funding for 2024 Collaborative Neuroscience Projects
StratNeuro awards a total of 15 MSEK to support Collaborative Neuroscience Projects. StratNeuro received 35 letters of intent for the Collaborative Neuroscience Projects and after an internal review, the StratNeuro Board selected the top proposals (approximately 1/3), which were then invited to submit full proposals for a second round of evaluation by an external review panel.
Stratneuro announces grants for Visiting Scholars - StratNeuro Call 2024
The StratNeuro Visiting Scholars funding aims to attract outstanding scholars from non-Swedish universities for short-term visits (1-6 months long). This call aims to support new international collaborations and scientific exchange within the Karolinska Institutet Neuroscience community. We encourage applications for Visiting Scholars from our NeurotechEU partner universities. For the Visiting Scholar this is an opportunity to engage with neuroscientists at the Karolinska Institutet.
Research funding
StratNeuro aims to support researchers in the Neuroscience area, and provides funding via a number of initiatives.
KI's Research within Neuroscience
Cellular / Molecular
We study how neurons control their excitable behaviour, how they receive and process incoming information, and how they communicate with other neurons via synapses.
Cognition / Behaviour / Psychology
We study complex mechanisms underlying cognition and behaviour.
Development / Stem Cells / Repair
We study how neurons are generated from progenitor cells, how they divide, survive, and adopt specific identities, and migrate to sites where they are incorporated into neuronal circuits.
Motor function
Motor behaviour is the overt expression of the brain's activity. Motor circuits are precisely assembled and function in a delicate manner to produce the sequential activity of muscles underlying a defined behaviour.
Neurodegenerative disorders
Neurodegeneration is the overarching term for conditions with progressive loss of function and eventually death of neurons participating in motor, sensory or cognitive functions.
Neurodevelopmental disorders
Neurodevelopmental disorders refer to conditions of impaired cognitive and motor functions stemming from an atypical development of the brain.
Neurogenetics / Epidemiology
By studying the genetic architecture of diseases affecting the brain and spinal cord it is possible to reveal biological pathways involved in disease etiology.
Neuroinflammatory disorders
Neuroinflammatory disorders are conditions where immune responses damage components of the nervous system.
Neurotrauma / Neurosurgery / Neurovascular
Surgical interventions for conditions such as neurotrauma, brain tumours and vascular disorders are constantly being refined by scientists in this field.
Psychiatry / Neuropharmacology
Research in psychiatry concerns conditions such as addiction, depression, psychosis, schizophrenia, anxiety, personality disorders and suicidal behaviour.
Sensory functions
Information about the outside world reaches the brain as for example visual, auditory, olfactory, and mechanoreceptive stimuli.
