Annual StratNeuro Retreat
The yearly StratNeuro retreat gathers neuroscience researchers from Karolinska Institutet, Umeå University, and the Royal Institute of Technology for a couple of days of networking and getting up to date with the latest research from across the spectrum of neuroscience topics aligning with the interests that the StratNeuro constellation represents.
The 2024 StratNeuro Retreat will be at Djurönäset:
- 3 June 2024: Exclusive day for a limited number of PhD students
- 4–5 June 2024: Main programme for researchers in neuroscience
The StratNeuro retreat is the place to be for neuroscientists from Karolinska Institutet (KI), Umeå University (UMU) and Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).
Additionally, as KI is a member of the European University of Brain and Technology (NeurotechEU), StratNeuro will welcome small delegations from our NeurotechEU partners, including two speakers.
If you haven’t had the chance to attend any of our earlier retreats, or just want to read about the highlights of our latest meeting, please check the recent news article about the 2023 retreat.
At our retreat, you will attend top talks from local researchers and invited leading neuroscientists, covering research from the molecular level and up to the cognitive and social levels. You will have a chance to network and discuss your work with other experts during our popular poster mingle session.
Several KI Core Facilities and infrastructures serving the Neuroscience community will also be participating at the poster session.
The scientific programme will consist of three plenary sessions, a poster session, and two break-out sessions with two parallel mini symposia/workshops in each session.
Eligibility
Main retreat programme 4–5 June 2024
Please note that undergraduates, MSci students or research assistants are unfortunately not eligible to register to the 2024 retreat.
Neuroscience PhD student retreat in collaboration with INCF (3–5 June 2024)
Admission to the PhD retreat will be reserved for up to 50 PhD students from the StratNeuro Network (KI, KTH, Umeå University). A very limited number of additional places will be open to PhD students from our NeurotechEU partner institutions.
To be eligible to participate in the PhD student retreat, it is mandatory to
- Be formally registered for doctoral education.
- Submit an abstract for poster presentation.
- Also attend the retreat program on 4 and 5 June and present your work at the poster session.
Eligible students will then be selected by the program committee based on the scientific quality of the abstract submitted and how well their research is aligned with the workshop theme selected.
Workshops at the PhD retreat
The PhD retreat day is co-organized with the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF) and will therefore have a focus on neuroinformatics and neuroscience data resources.
The theme of the PhD student retreat will be Introduction to Brain Data Science.
A general introduction to the concepts of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) neuroscience and resources & services available through INCF and EBRAINS that facilitate FAIR data management, sharing, and integration will be provided to all participants regardless of the specific tutorial that they select to attend.
Up to three parallel workshops will be offered, and you must select which is best suited to your research interests:
- Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) tutorial.
- EBRAINS Digital Brain Atlasing tutorial.
- Neurodata without Borders (NWB) for neurophysiology data tutorial.
