BEA - about us
With more than 20 years of operation, the Bioinformatics and Expression Analysis Core Facility (BEA) has has long experience of implementing and maintaining genomic technologies. Our services and competence are highly requested by researchers at KI and other Swedish universities.
The Bioinformatics and Expression Analysis Core Facility (BEA) is a national genomic service facility located at the Department of Medicine (MedH) at KI South Campus. BEA provides a large repertoire of genomic technologies to ongoing research projects principally at the Karolinska Institute but also at other Swedish universities. This includes services for genomic analysis based on the Affymetrix, Agilent, Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, 10X Genomics and ABI platforms for microarrays, sequencing and qPCR. The services are extensive and ranges from experimental planning to bioinformatic support. We are also offering services for RNA and DNA purification, nucleic acid quality control and different qPCR based assays.
BEA aims to be widely known and recognized as an infrastructure, where scientists from diverse fields and with diverse backgrounds know they can turn for advice and assistance. The goal for BEA is to provide high quality and internationally competitive infrastructure, services and education in genomic technologies including associated data analysis. BEA is headed by Fredrik Fagerström Billai, who serves as operating manager as well as director.

The Bioinformatics and Expression Analysis Core Facility (BEA) is located in the building NEO, KI Campus Flemingsberg. The laboratory and the staff offices can be found at level 6 in the south wing of NEO with access from Blickagången.
Opening hours: 09:00-16:00 Monday through Friday. Please contact us before visiting or delivering samples. Samples can also be sent with the KI shuttle from Solna, upon arrangement with BEA.
