- Ulla Stenius är professor i yrkestoxikologi sedan 2010 vid Institutet för miljömedicin. Under 2014-2022 var hon prefekt för samma institution.
Forskningsbeskrivning
- Projekt: Könsskillnader i känslighet för carcinogena ämnen
I detta projekt studeras könsskillnader och känslighet för tumöruppkomst av kemikalier. Ett syfte är att identifiera de cancerframkallande ämnen som uppvisar könsskillnader i carcinogen aktivitet. Ett annat mål är att identifiera verkningsmekanismer för dessa kemikalier. Av särskilt intresse är androgen receptors roll för manlig känslighet för carcinogener.

Projekt: Kvarts och cancer - ny typ av DNA-skada
Sedan flera år har en teori om hur kvarts orsakar mutationer varit dominerande. I detta projekt ska en alternativ typ av DNA-skademekanism studeras - kvartspartiklar kan ge dubbelsträngbrott och mikrokärnor genom aktivering av endonucleas G. Mekanismen ska karakteriseras vidare i experimentella modeller och dess relevans för canceruppkomst ska studeras. Projektet kan leda till en förenklad riskbedömning av kvarts och kanske också till ett sänkta gränsvärden i arbetslivet.
