EU-collaborative projects at KI

Karolinska Institutet is one of Sweden's largest recipients of EU funds with 213 ongoing EU projects in 2023. Most of the projects are financed by the previous framework program for research, Horizon 2020 (H2020), and the current program Horizon Europe.

Of the 213 projects, 160 are so-called collaborative projects where KI, together with several other European and international organisations, contribute to the results of the projects. These projects are funded by various parts of the EU's research programmes.

Ten of the projects are coordinated by KI researchers. As coordinator, KI is given an opportunity to be noticed internationally and to a greater extent influence European issues around research and education at research level.

KI is Sweden's largest recipient of grants from H2020's and Horizon Europe's sub-programme for health, where KI had 80 active projects in 2023. During 2023, KI participated in several projects within the Innovation Council (EIC), the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) as well as the EIT Health consortium. KI is also participating in the new Digital Europe programme to support SMEs with expertise, testing and validation of new solutions for artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics in healthcare.
