Juan Pablo Lopez

Assistant Professor

Juan Pablo Lopez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, where he leads the Neurobiology of Stress and Treatment Response laboratory.

His research aims to understand how stress shapes brain function and why individuals differ in their response to treatments for stress-related psychiatric disorders, using animal models. His work focuses on uncovering the molecular, cellular, and circuit-level mechanisms underlying conditions such as depression and anxiety, and on identifying how these mechanisms can be targeted to promote recovery.

To address these questions, his laboratory integrates a wide range of experimental and computational approaches, including single-cell transcriptomics, circuit-level manipulations, and automated behavioural phenotyping. This multidisciplinary strategy allows the group to investigate how stress is translated into changes in gene expression, neural circuits, and behaviour across different cell types, brain regions, and biological systems.
