Need for rehabilitation and support in people with stroke and their relatives - a 5 year follow-up of LAS 1
The project will provide unique knowledge of how people with stroke and their significant others perceive the long-term impact of stroke in their everyday lives and their perceived needs for rehabilitation and support.
Aim
The overall aim is to identify needs for rehabilitation and support in people with stroke and their significant others and if and how such needs vary over time.
Design
The first phase of Life After Stroke-I (LAS-I) addressed the rehabilitation process during the first year after stroke from the perspectives of people with stroke and their significant others. A 5-year follow-up of the same cohort is ongoing using the same tests and questionnaires as in the LAS-I. Data collection comprises structured interviews and tests of functioning, life satisfaction, perceived needs of health-related services and satisfaction with care, use of healthcare, and contextual and disease-specific factors. Data from significant others regarding caregiver burden, life satisfaction and perceived needs of health-related services is also collected. Qualitative interviews of the experiences of unmet needs and factors that contribute to the meeting of rehabilitation needs and participation in everyday life will be performed with both people with stroke and their significant others.
