The division is responsible for the academic mission carried out in collaboration with the Karolinska University Hospital’s Medical Unit for Pelvic Cancer, Section of Urology, Huddinge.

One of our key tasks is providing education to students on the medical programme. Currently, we teach in term 7, and all students receive approximately seven days of urological training as part of the Clinical Medicine course with a specialisation in surgery.

We conduct clinically-based urological research in line with the care mandate of the Pelvic Cancer Medical Unit. There are also nurses and a urotherapist conducting research in urological care and nursing, which is also an asset to the unit’s teaching.

The Department of Urology at Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge, provides specialised general urological care. The department specialises in particular in the care and treatment of kidney and ureteral stones, non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, major tumour-removal surgery for testicular cancer, kidney cancer treatments, and advanced urethral stricture surgery.

Research

These are questions the research group seeks to answer, always with the patient’s best interests in focus.

The research approach is both qualitative and quantitative, and we often work in multidisciplinary teams to describe and generate new knowledge that benefits patients.
