Sweden and Brazil strengthen collaboration in life science and health
A major Sweden–Brazil conference at Karolinska Institutet brought together key actors in life science and health, laying the foundation for new partnerships and future collaboration through HELIX.

On 14–15 September more than 90 researchers, clinicians, companies and public-sector representatives from Sweden and Brazil gathered at Karolinska Institutet for the Sweden–Brazil Research and Innovation Conference in Life Science and Health. The conference explored opportunities to deepen collaboration in areas including medical research, digital health, AI and innovation, and to develop new joint initiatives.
The conference also marked the launch of HELIX, a three-year initiative bringing together Karolinska Institutet, Lund University and Halmstad University with Brazilian partners. Through research collaboration, mobility and engagement with healthcare, industry and innovation environments, HELIX aims to develop a long-term Sweden–Brazil knowledge ecosystem in life science and health. As highlighted during the conference, maintaining strong international relationships is no longer enough in a rapidly changing world. Collaboration must also help us recognize change and identify new questions, capabilities and opportunities that we did not already know to look for. The conference marked an important first step in turning these ambitions into concrete collaboration between Sweden and Brazil.
