International Medical Educators Exchange Programme (IMEX)
The International Medical Educators Exchange Programme (IMEX) is an international network for exchange and collaboration in medical education. Karolinska Institutet was one of the founding institutions of IMEX in 2006 and has participated continuously in the programme since its inception.
IMEX brings together experienced medical educators from medical schools around the world. The programme provides opportunities to gain international perspectives on medical education, exchange experiences across educational systems, and develop professional networks and collaborations.
IMEX site visits
Once or twice a year, one of the participating institutions hosts an IMEX site visit. During these visits, participants take part in seminars, presentations, informal discussions and observations of teaching and learning activities.
The programme combines an exploration of the host institution’s local educational context with discussions of broader themes in medical education. Participants contribute their own experiences and perspectives, creating opportunities for mutual learning across institutions and countries.
What IMEX offers participants
Participation in IMEX provides opportunities to:
- gain new perspectives and inspiration for the development of medical education and teaching;
- learn how medical education is organised and delivered in different educational and healthcare systems;
- exchange experiences with colleagues who share similar educational interests;
- develop international professional networks; and
- initiate collaborations in education, educational development and medical education research.
