Important information before applying
Karolinska Institutet Housing offers furnished apartments and rooms in several areas in Stockholm to incoming international students and guest researchers at Karolinska Institutet.
Important information
The application process consists of three steps.
- Important information before applying
- Register and submit your application
- After applying
Before applying, we ask you to read the information below to make sure that you are eligible to apply for KI Housing accommodation. If you are eligible and you have read the information, you may continue to the next step Register and submit your application.
Maximum rental time
The maximum rental time is limited to one year, as our accommodation is intended to be a first place to stay when a guest researcher/student comes from abroad. If you are going to stay for a longer period than the maximum rental time, you are expected to look for other accommodation alternatives while staying with us.
Normally, the minimum stay is one month.
First place to stay
Our mission is to provide a first place to stay to incoming international students and researchers at KI. As the demand for housing is high, we are generally unable to offer accommodation to students/researchers who have already arrived to Sweden.
No housing guarantee
Note that KI Housing is unable to accommodate everyone who applies as the demand for housing in periods is very high.
Due to limited availability, accommodation may sometimes only be offered for shorter periods than requested.
Data protection policy
Note that KI Housing handles personal data only for specific purposes e.g. to process applications for accommodation in accordance with the guidelines given by Karolinska Institutet.
By applying for accommodation from KI Housing, the applicant confirms the approval of handling of his/her personal data given in the application.

Applying for KI Housing accommodation
Who can apply?
Incoming international students and researchers within these categories who will be studying/working at Karolinska Institutet are eligible to apply for accommodation through KI Housing.
Available rooms and apartments are offered in an allocation model decided by Karolinska Institutet. Note that prioritized groups are always offered accommodation first. Remaining available accommodation is offered in registration order on a first come first served basis.
When can I apply?
We recommend you to apply for accommodation through KI Housing as soon as possible when you know your date of arrival.
You can apply for housing even if you have not received your letter of acceptance/invitation but it is important that you upload your letter in the customer portal once you have received it. What information this letter must contain is described below.
Note that applications need to be made no later than three months after arrival in Sweden. When you have been in Sweden for more than three months, you are ineligible to apply.
How to apply?
If you are eligible to apply for housing through us, you are welcome to submit an application by following the steps in our application process.
When you apply, we ask you to add as many accommodation alternatives as possible to your preference list to increase your chances of getting housing.
