The Department of Occupational Therapy invites you to the performance "It Is What It Is" - a song cycle and dance macabre for two, an original choreographic and musical work by and featuring Maria Johansson Josephsson and Tove Sahlin. The performance is presented as part of the freestanding course "Clinical Stories and Narrative Medicine as Tools in Person-Centred Care" Duration: approx. 1 hour. Time: 12:30 PM at SMI on Tuesday, September 15. Admission is free, but registration is required (see link, in Swedish).

Welcome to the upcoming halftime review of Marika-Maarit Osuji's doctoral project, "Developing Narratively Engaged Practices to Enable Core Values in Elderly Care", May 29:th at 09.00.

Globala Hälsopodden interviews Susanne Guidetti (in Swedish) about how to create opportunities for a meaningful everyday life when resources are limited – and what occupational therapy can do to strengthen people's independence worldwide. Susanne talks about her journey from clinical work to international research and experiences from projects both in Sweden and in low- and middle-income countries. Through concrete examples, she describes how occupational therapy can make a difference in people's everyday lives – from rehabilitation after illness or injury to creating new opportunities for participation in society. The conversation moves between research, practice and global perspectives on health, and provides insight into how occupational therapy can contribute to change far beyond the clinic room.

The academic elections are now completed and Susanne Guidetti from the Division of Occupational Therapy will take up her post as appointed Faculty Representative of the Committee for Doctoral Education (KFU) on 1 July. The term of office runs until 31 December 2029.

Welcome to Cecilia Johnsson's upcoming dissertation lecture, "Complex paths of lifestyle change in stroke prevention - unveiling seeds and processes of engaging occupations", January 16th at 09.00.

On September 2, 2025, seven physicians, five occupational therapists, and five physiotherapists were awarded diplomas by H.M. The Queen during a formal ceremony at Drottningholm Court Theatre. Read more on the KI news web page about the event.

The division is pleased to see a continued increase in the number of applicants to the occupational therapist program. The number of applicants to occupational therapy programs is increasing again overall, but of all nine occupational therapy programs, KI has the highetst number of first-choice applicants this fall, 151 (compared to last fall's 118 applicants)! The merit value and scores in the university entrance exam have also increased among the applicants. Klick  the promo to read more (in Swedish).

The division congratulates Professor Emerita Louise Nygård, who is awarded Karolinska Institutet’s Grand Silver Medal for her unique work in healthcare research, geriatrics and dementia, with great relevance for the future of geriatrics. The medal is awarded to people who have made tremendous efforts in support of KI’s activities and will be presented this year at the installation ceremony on 9 October.

Ann-Helen Patomella and Lisa Holmlund are awarded 800,000 SEK each for 2025. Ann-Helen is awarded the funds for the project "Incidence of stroke and preventive lifestyle interventions in vulnerable areas - contextual and unequal conditions for health" (Blue Sky Grant). Lisa is awarded the funds for the project "Enhancing Decision-Making Support: Theoretical Insights into Embodiment and Autonomy for Disabled Persons" (Theoretical and conceptual development)."
