Call for Applications: Research-Oriented Specialisation Training (Forskar-ST) in Family Medicine

Call for Applications: Research-Oriented Specialisation Training (Forskar-ST) in Family Medicine

Step 1: Research Projects

As part of the Primary Care Strategy, Region Stockholm is implementing a dedicated initiative for research training during 2021–2025. The aim of research-oriented specialisation training (Forskar-ST) in general practice is to increase the number of PhD-qualified specialists within primary care. Each year during this period, three Forskar-ST positions will be announced and linked to pre-reviewed and selected research projects.

In Step 1, supervisors apply with research projects. In Step 2, the approved projects will be opened for recruitment, and three ST doctors will be appointed as PhD candidates through a separate call.

Call for Step 1: Research Projects

We welcome applications for research projects suitable for research-oriented specialisation training. Up to three years of the PhD programme will be conducted within the framework of ST training in general practice in Region Stockholm. The primary supervisor is responsible for securing funding for the fourth year of the PhD programme or any remaining period after the specialist qualification is obtained, if achieved earlier.

The PhD training will take place at Karolinska Institutet. This initiative is connected to the Graduate School for General Practice and Primary Care, which is conducted in collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Region Stockholm.

Application Process

Applications are to be submitted by the academic supervisor between 25 November and 10 January 2025 at 14:00 via the application management system PRISMA.

Region Stockholm invites applications for research-oriented specialisation training (Forskar-ST) in general practice as part of its Primary Care Strategy for 2021–2025. This initiative aims to increase the number of PhD-qualified specialist doctors in primary care.

Each year during this period, three Forskar-ST positions will be announced. These positions are tied to pre-approved and selected research projects and conducted in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet.

The programme offers a unique opportunity to combine specialist training in general practice with a structured PhD programme, contributing to both clinical and academic development within primary care.

Application Deadlines

Detailed information on the application process and deadlines for research projects (Step 1) and candidate recruitment (Step 2) will be provided in the announcement.

We look forward to your application!

Applications must include at least two applicants: a principal applicant (the planned primary supervisor) and a co-applicant (secondary supervisor). Both must hold a PhD. If the planned primary supervisor is not yet an associate professor or professor, at least one co-applicant must hold such a title.

An individual can only act as the principal applicant for one project but may be a co-applicant for multiple applications in this call.

The principal applicant must:

  • Be a PhD-qualified specialist in general practice.

  • Be employed by Region Stockholm or Karolinska Institutet at the time of application.
