Parasitology Division
The Parasitology Division consists of independent research groups and teams interested in parasitic infections.
Research Teams

Susanne Nylén Group - Immunology of host-parasite interactions
We are interested in understanding how host parasite interactions shape the host and the immune landscape over time and how this in turn affect outcome of infections and vaccination.
Recently we have also initiated investigations on drug resistance development in parasitic nematodes.

Akira Kaneko Team - Malaria elimination
Cooperating with endemic communities on islands in Vanuatu, Oceania since 1987 and in Lake Victoria, Kenya since 2008, Akira has studied the feasibility and sustainability of malaria elimination with the ultimate aim of proposing a community-directed strategy of sustainable malaria freedom and development towards global malaria eradication.

Noushin Emami
Noushin Emami's lab researches infectious-disease biology with a focus on host-pathogen-vector signalling-communication. They provide a fundamental/quantitative description of communication in infection-biology/behaviour plasticity, and genetics towards the design of novel scientific technologies.
Collaborations with the Division of Parasitology
Pedro Gil
Pedro Gil, Principal Researcher at Karolinska Institutet, leads groundbreaking studies on malaria drug resistance and pharmacogenetics, shaping global strategies in infectious disease treatment.
Sherwin Chan
Sherwin Chan, Assistant Professor at KI, pioneers research in malaria biology and translational regulation, advancing our understanding of Plasmodium falciparum and its impact on global health.
Björn Andersson
Björn Andersson leads cutting-edge genomic research on parasites and viruses, advancing diagnostics, drug resistance studies, and virome analysis to combat infectious diseases globally.
Infection Biology Network
The Infection Biology Network at Karolinska Institutet encompasses many of the departments at Solna and Huddinge Campuses with an interest in infection biology research
