Credit-bearing activities
CNS requirements may differ from KI’s general guidelines. In each individual case, the Director of Doctoral education at CNS can decide what activity may be approved in order to fulfil the doctoral education goals.
Obligatory educational activities:
1. Research seminars, journal clubs etc: min 1.5 credits - max 6 credits
2. International conferences:
min 1.5 credits - max 3 credits
Optional educational activities:
3. Visit to a research group at another university: max 6 credits
4. Teaching within own research field for practical pedagogical training:
max 4.5 credits

How to report?
Send signed Form 16 + attachment as indicated below, depending on the type of activity.

1. Research seminars, Journal Clubs etc.
Obligatory: 1.5 credits
Research seminar series within your research area:
You can report:
Minimum 20 occasions = 1,5 credits.
Accumulate these occasions before you ask for accreditation.
Report: Send Form 16 + an attendance form or similar document/certificate which must indicate:
• theme of the seminars
• dates
• seminar length per occasion
• must be verified by the responsible organiser (alternatively the main supervisor)
Journal / book clubs - scientific literature review:
Journal clubs have no strict format, but a PhD student is expected both to host a journal club session (i.e. present the scientific paper) as well as take part in the discussions when another person is presenting. The student's supervisor or other responsible person should sign an attendance record for each occasion.
You can report:
Minimum 12 occasions = 1,5 credits
Accumulate these occasions before you ask for accreditation.
Report: Send Form 16 + an attendance form or similar document/certificate which must indicate:
• theme of the journal clubs
• dates
• journal club length per occasion
• must be verified by the responsible organiser (alternatively the main supervisor)
Workshop / symposium:
can be combined with Seminars / Journal clubs
1 day (8 hours) = 0,3 credits
1 week (minimum 30 hours) = 1,5 credits
2. International conferences
Obligatory: 1.5 credits
Oral or poster presentation at an international conference (approx. 3 days)
Report: Send Form 16 and the following:
• an extract from the abstract book
• a certificate of attendance or invitation
3. Research visit
1.5 credits per week
Visit to an academic institution for the purpose of interacting scientifically.
Report: Send Form 16 + A certificate from the host scientists which must indicate:
• location
• time period
• tasks
• possibly a review from the person signing the certificate
4. Teaching
1.5 credits for 40 hours including preparation time
You can report: 20 hours teaching + 20 hours preparation time = 1,5 credits.
Accumulate these hours before you ask for accreditation.
You should conduct a teaching course in pedagogy for teachers before you begin teaching at KI.
Teaching within personal research area for practical pedagogical training, including time for preparation.
Primarily teaching encompasses classroom-based activities. While lab-based supervision of project workers is a beneficial experience it is not accredited for teaching in this context.
Report: Send Form 16 + a certificate from the course coordinator which must indicate:
• the level of education e.g. medical student programme term 9
• subject
• date/time and number of hours of teaching
