Tony Jimenez-Beristain
Om mig
Tony Jimenez-Beristain is trained in Chemistry, Biology and Pharmacy at UAA (Mexico, 2001). He received his PhD degree in 2007 from Miguel Hernandez University, (Alicante, Spain), in the Institute of Neuroscience (IN-CSIC, Alicante). In the laboratory of Professor De Felipe (IN-CSIC, Spain) and Professor Li (Institute for Stem Cell Research, The University of Edinburgh, UK). He investigated the role of the transcriptional factor Pitx3 during the differentiation and commitment of embryonic stem cells towards midbrain dopaminergic neurons and their potential use in cell replacement therapy to treat Parkinson's disease. His PhD research was awarded with a distinction "summa cum laude" and the distinction “Doctor Europaeus” by the European Universities Associations (European Community). Later he moved to Uppsala University for a brief post-doc at the Biomedical Center to broaden his knowledge in regenerative neurobiology. In 2011 he joined the Human Protein Atlas project at SciLifeLab Stockholm (The Human Protein Atlas is a Swedish-based program initiated in 2003 to map all the human proteins in cells, tissues, and organs using antibody-based technologies).
Since 2021 he has been a scientific member of Stockholm's animal ethics board. Additionally, since 2011 he has been a safety and security officer at SciLifeLab site in Stockholm and in several departments belonging to Karolinska Institutet.
