- Chefredaktör för tidskriften Methods of Information in Medicine
- Associerad redaktör för tidskriften Applied Clinical Informatics
- Medlem i redaktörskommittén för tidskriften International Journal of Medical Informatics
- Medlem i Nationella eHälsorådet
- Medlem i Rådgivandenämnd för Medical Informatics Initiative Germany by the German Federal Medical Ministry of Education and Research
Utbildning
- PhD 1998 (summa cum laude) – Medicinsk Informatik, Ruprecht-Karls Universitet Heidelberg, Tyskland, “Methoden zur diagnoseorientierten Qualitätsobjektivierung und automatischen Bildverbesserung in der zahnärztlichen Radiologie“, Huvudhandledare: Prof. Dr. C.O. Köhler
- MSc 1993 – Medicinsk Informatik, Tekniska högskola, Heilbronn and Ruprecht-Karls Universitet Heidelberg, Tyskland
Akademiska priser och utmärkelser
2017 Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics
2016 Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics
2007 - 2008 Mentorsprogram Ingenjörsvetenskapsakademin (IVA)
2000 - 2001 Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, post doktor stipendium
1995 Svenska institutet, stipendium
Forskningsbeskrivning
2012 - 2016 programdirektor, masterprogrammet i hälsoinformatik

- European Union EU DIGITAL1 januari 2026 - 31 december 2028Health Data Sweden - Next Level aims to consolidate Health Data Sweden (HDS) to facilitate the digitalisation of the healthcare sector with AI innovations. Through a bottom-up approach, HDS has built a tightly integrated set of services for both Small and Mediumsized Enterprises and Public Sector Organisations that break traditional regional and organisational boundaries and reach a wide range of stakeholders. HDS received an excellent judgement from the national managing authority after 24-month reporting, and a positive half-time evaluation by the EC with recommendations that have been taken into account for the consolidation. The next level for HDS is (i) to strengthen the ecosystem with venture-building services and procurement support, (ii) to reach out to all regions and municipalities in Sweden, (iii) to further the integration with EU-supported AI infrastructures, and (iv) to sustain the services beyond the scope of the project. To achieve this next level, Health Data Sweden - Next Level brings on board 3 new partners with strong experience in venture building, and 2 new associate partners that reach all regions and municipalities in Sweden and the MedTech industry. A lean and fitfor-purpose constellation of partners and collaboration structures ensures that the goals can be achieved, maximising more value through services. Health Data Sweden will be a strong force to advocate the perspective of innovation and needs of both SMEs and PSOs here and now in the Swedish health data ecosystem. Building a legacy through systems change, and a focus on long-term sustainability of the services are integral to the consolidation challenge.
- Swedish Research Council for Health Working Life and Welfare1 januari 2025 - 31 december 2028Research problem and specific questions: The acute staffing crisis in healthcare calls for the need to redesign care delivery models to meet the needs of patients in efficient ways. Remote patient monitoring (RPM) has been proposed as a new model of care to achieve this. Yet, RPM often fails to be implemented due to difficulties in integrating new or changed tasks into the daily work of an already strained workforce. Task shifting has been recommended as a strategy to make best use of available resources, but the shifting of tasks from healthcare staff to patients, caregivers, and digital health technologies remains largely unexplored. Our specific research questions are:How do healthcare professionals, patients, and informal caregivers experience their work tasks related to RPM?How can task shifting and sharing be made explicit in the context of RPM?How does the shifting and sharing of tasks in the context of RPM influence patient, caregiver, and staff experiences? How does the shifting and sharing of tasks in the context of RPM influence healthcare costs?Data and method: The study context will involve four hospitals in the Stockholm Region that are developing RPM services for various care processes. We will engage with the hospitals using an action research approach involving three phases. In phase 1, we will explore experiences of work tasks related to RPMin phase 2, we will engage relevant actors in co-designing task shifting strategiesin phase 3, we will evaluate experiences and costs of task shifting. Data will be collected qualitatively (observations, interviews, focus group discussions, co-design workshops, documents) and quantitatively (questionnaires, care utilization, costs).Societal relevance and utilization: This project addresses the societal challenge of ensuring high-quality healthcare in the face of workforce shortages and increasing patient demands. By exploring how task shifting can be supported in the context of RPM, we aim to provide evidence-based solutions that can improve resource utilization in healthcare, and the experiences of healthcare professionals, patients, and informal caregivers.Plan for project realization: Access to the study setting has been established. Data collection and analysis will be carried out longitudinally by experienced researchers with interdisciplinary expertise, as well as co-researchers from the study context. The costs cover mainly personnel, analysis, and dissemination activities.
