This electrospinning device can be used to form nanofibrous structures with a large surface area and high porosity. The applications range widely, from (biomedical) applications such as wound healing or tendon repair where nanofibres mimic the extracellular matrix, encapsulation of quantum dots for enhanced photoluminescence, to nanofiltration. Both planar and tubular collectors can be used. This device also offers strong control over temperature and relative humidity, impossible with most in-house developed devices. In addition to electrospinning, it also offers electrospraying to form nanoparticles, interesting for controlled drug release and encapsulation of active components. Furthermore, more than one needle can be used to develop a mixed polymer nanofibrous net or even coaxial core-shell fibres.
